An Introduction to Biofield Energy

What Is Biofield Energy? A Primer on Biophotons

The science behind Aurorus is based on the intrinsic electrical currents present in all living cells — generated by ion channel movements, dipole frequencies, and molecular processes. Measuring these underlying currents provides a window into the body’s electromagnetic terrain.

Basic physics tells us that wherever there is electric current, there is an associated electromagnetic field. These fields arise from the electrical processes constantly at work within the body’s cellular matrix. The very small electromagnetic fields generated this way are known as biophotons — ultra-weak photon emissions of biological systems, existing in the ultraviolet through optical range of the light spectrum.

Research suggests the body’s biophoton emission reflects cell-to-cell communication and the functional state of the living organism, making its measurement a potentially valuable window into that state.

Biophotons are largely generated by mitochondrial ATP energy production, along with polarization of the intracellular and extracellular matrices. Mitochondria are present in nearly every cell of the body (with the exception of red blood cells), with higher concentrations in organs and systems with high energy demands — the brain, liver, skin, muscles, and nerves. Changes in biophotonic activity have been associated with changes in mitochondrial ATP energy production.

How Aurorus Measures Biophotons

Aurorus reads the signal generated when a finger is placed on a glass electrode and a high-frequency voltage impulse is applied to the underside of the glass surface. Fingertips carry a high concentration of nerve endings and correspondingly higher electrical activity and biophoton density. The voltage impulse generates a localized electromagnetic field around the finger, exciting the biophotonic field within the skin and nerve cells of the fingertip. This excites local air molecules into a brief, room-temperature plasma state, which releases photons in the ultraviolet and visible light spectrum as it discharges. That light is captured by a camera, relayed to the Aurorus system, and analyzed by a proprietary set of algorithms to generate a numeric score.
Think of it as a kind of spectrometer for the biofield — instead of resolving the chemical composition of a sample, it’s reading the body’s own faint electromagnetic and biophotonic signal.

Aurorus offers real-time insight into the body’s electromagnetic activity as a complement to how someone is tracking their overall wellness — including how they’re responding to lifestyle choices, stressors, and self-care practices over time. Aurorus is non-invasive, painless, and fast, and is intended as a wellness and research tool rather than a diagnostic one — findings are meant to be considered alongside, not in place of, guidance from a qualified healthcare professional.
